World of Urushi
An International Urushi Lacquer Art Exhibition and Symposium
世界のうるし −装飾と造形−
2022 Exhibition Cancellation
Because COVID-19 pandemic remains unpredictable, there is no way to be certain what the situation will be in October 2022. Therefore, the “World of Urushi” Exhibition and Symposium originally to be held at Tokyo University of Art in 2020 and rescheduled for October 2022 will now be cancelled.

The Steering Committee has decided this because the event was to be an international celebration of urushi arts, crafts and culture with a goal of having many people from Japan and around the world participate. However, there are still restrictions on behavior in Japan and on international travel. It is uncertain whether travel to Tokyo or even gatherings will be possible next October. We felt that it was necessary to take this decision now and not at a later date. We shall review the project from a new prospective and revisit it again in the future.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to those who were preparing for the event. Thank you for your understanding. Above all, we pray for your safety and good health.

Sincerely yours,

Norihiko Ogura ・ Sakurako Matsushima

World of Urushi 2020 Tokyo -- Postponement and Rescheduling
The “World of Urushi” Tokyo exhibition and symposium is being postponed.
The Executive Committee took this decision because of the COVID-19 pandemic's ferocity and the continued uncertainly of its duration. Priority must be given to the health and safety of participants. The “World of Urushi” will now be held in October 2022. The venue has already been arranged. We know that many of you have been preparing for and looking forward to the Tokyo program. However, we also know that you understand the reasons for the rescheduling.
Please continue to check the program website for more information on the 2022 Tokyo “World of Urushi”. The website will be updated with new information and program details as they become available.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
